GROVELAND — The Groveland Police Department and Chief Jeffrey T. Gillen are issuing an alert to the community after multiple reports of motor vehicle break-ins overnight.

Groveland Police received six calls from residents on Sunday, July 23 reporting that their cars were broken into. In all six cases, the vehicles had been left unlocked.

“Groveland is a very safe community, but we cannot allow that to lull us into ignoring basic safety and security guidelines,” Chief Gillen said. “I encourage all residents to lock their cars all the time. Nearly all motor vehicle break-ins affect unlocked vehicles, and the simple act of pressing a button makes all the difference.”

The Groveland Police Department offers the following tips for residents:

  • Always lock all car doors.
  • Roll up windows and close sunroofs.
  • Never leave loose electronics in plain view.
  • Do not leave money in your car or loose change in plain view.
  • Call police immediately if you notice something missing.

Anyone who would like to report suspicious activity should call 911 immediately. Anyone with information on the break-ins that occurred yesterday are asked to call the Groveland Police Department at 978-521-1212.
